My research interests are wastewater treatments by advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), especially processes involving acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitations .

Intensification of Ozonation by Acoustic and Hydrodynamic Cavitations

Cavitation induced chemical and mechanical effects. During cavitational collapse, localized hot spots occur and produce potent oxidants, such as the hydroxyl radical and H2O2. This chemical effect increases oxidation capacity and provides other reaction path than oxidation, i.e. Pyrolisis reaction. Mechanial effects such as shock waves, micro-jets and turbulence enhance the volumetric mass transfer coefficient.

These effects of cavitations can overcome the drawbacks of ozonation process, i.e. selectivity as well as the low solubility of ozone in water. This research assessed the extent of contribution of acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation to the ozonatiion process. In addition, the contribution of chemical and mechanical effects was also evaluated.

Hydrodynamic Cavitation for Disinfection of Bacteria

Mechanical effect of cavitation can result in rupture of cell walls, interference with osmotic responsiveness, loss of intercellular material, and disruption of protein synthesis.
